Controller and scope
Christian Heydt, Schmied-Kochel-Straße 15, 81371 Munich, Germany. Telephone: +49(89) 76 754 002. Contact: nodecast.app@gmail.com. This notice covers Skip & Stay for iPhone, iPad and Apple-silicon Mac, its Apple Watch remote companion and this website. Updated: 22 October 2026.
Local app data
Skip & Stay requires no Skip & Stay account. Favorite stations and their order, favorite songs, station history, list selection, language, appearance and playback settings are stored locally. Listening statistics contain actual listening time, station, country and daily totals; these support monthly views and the radio passport with progress, country stamps, badges and color themes. Recognized songs may be stored with title, artist, recognition time, station, artwork address and suitable music links. Artwork files are cached separately. Hiding statistics does not stop their collection. Radio-data counters measure received payload separately for Wi-Fi and mobile data, stay on the device and are not a complete network bill. Daily data-usage values are retained for up to 90 days and can be reset. A volatile audio buffer supports playback and analysis, holds at most one minute of decoded audio and is discarded with the playback lifecycle. This version exposes no recording, audio-export or own-stream interface. Listening statistics and favorite collections are not sent to a Skip & Stay server. Individual metadata requests for music links are described separately below.
Private iCloud sync
iCloud is off by default. Only after you enable sync in Settings, and iCloud is available, Skip & Stay synchronizes favorites with station details, history and removal markers, and list, color and music preferences through Apple’s private key-value storage. Statistics and radio passport layout and visibility also sync privately. Complete listening statistics, recognized songs with metadata and music links, progress and unlocked rewards additionally transfer through a private iCloud file container. Audio and artwork files do not transfer for this purpose. Device contributions merge without counting downloaded replicas twice; existing progress is retained. Local data remains available offline. With sync off, Skip & Stay does not read or write this cloud data; turning it off does not delete an existing cloud copy. Transfers require a connection and available iCloud storage; Apple determines their timing. Device location, permissions, alarms, active timers and app volume do not transfer. Switching Apple accounts turns automatic sync off and requires enabling it again; existing local data remains. Skip & Stay has no separate cloud server and I cannot access your private copy. Apple device backups are separate. Requested private sync and app features are provided under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Mac color theme and appearance remain independent on that device. The iPhone haptic setting, network connection state and temporary visualization values are not synchronized. With sync enabled, station and song favorites and their ordering, plus the selected visualization and its enabled state, are also synchronized privately through iCloud. Live audio, individual frequency values and artwork image files are not included. Mac appearance remains device-local.
Seven-day trial and purchase
The App Store version’s free trial starts only when you confirm a free non-consumable in-app purchase. It lasts seven calendar days from Apple’s verified original purchase date. Skip & Stay verifies the signed transaction, product identifier and any revocation. Restoring does not restart the trial. A time high-water mark stored locally and in the device-only Keychain prevents moving the clock backwards from extending the trial; this record cannot grant access by itself and may survive an ordinary reinstall. It contains no station list or additional personal identifier and is sent neither to a Skip & Stay server nor through private iCloud sync. A separate one-time in-app purchase permanently unlocks the player. Prices and currencies come from the App Store; Skip & Stay collects no payment details. There is no subscription or automatic charge. A verified TestFlight/sandbox installation receives full testing access, which is not saved as a purchase for the later Store version. This processing provides trial access and purchased player functions under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Apple’s own purchasing and payment processing is described at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.
Directories, search and radio reception
Directory data comes from Radio Browser (radio-browser.info). The Sveriges Radio integration is disabled in version 1.0. Search terms or derived station, country, language and genre parameters are sent to Radio Browser. Connections process your network address, technical request information, time and requested content. Playback connects directly to the station’s specified stream servers; operators and their technical providers receive the IP address and stream requests. Station logos are fetched from the specified image servers. Some stations only offer unencrypted HTTP connections, which network operators may inspect. External services have their own privacy notices and retention rules. Providing your selected radio service is based on Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Skip & Stay sends no advertising identifier or its own behavioral profile to these services. If usable station artwork is missing, Skip & Stay may fetch the public broadcaster website and its declared logo or image addresses. To show a reliable website arrow, the app may check response headers for the currently displayed station’s website in advance and retrieve a missing address using its public directory identifier. These operators also receive the connection data needed for the request. Daily recommendations come from a music-station selection bundled with the app; ordering by local time is computed on the device and does not create a personal recommendation profile on a server. When you explicitly start or resume a publicly listed station, Skip & Stay reports its public station identifier (UUID) to Radio Browser for popularity statistics. Radio Browser also receives your IP address, request time and technical app identifier. Radio Browser states that each station is counted at most once per IP address per day and that IP addresses are retained for this purpose for 24 hours. Automatic reconnections, quality changes, alarms and automatic resumes do not create additional reports. Listening duration, song titles, favorites lists, location coordinates and app-generated user or device identifiers are not sent for this purpose. Failed reports are not queued for later delivery. Popularity statistics are separate from your local listening statistics and their visibility.
Music recognition, covers and Apple Music
Optional music recognition creates an acoustic fingerprint from radio audio already received. It is sent to Apple’s recognition service; no microphone or ambient sound is recorded and the original audio segments are not uploaded. Artist and title may be sent to Apple’s music catalog (itunes.apple.com) to check artwork and a song link; artwork is fetched from Apple’s image servers. Your network address and technical request data are also processed. Results are displayed in the player and, when music history is enabled, stored locally as song metadata. Optional private iCloud sync additionally transfers the stored metadata as described above. No playlist or listening library is created at a music service. You can turn recognition and saving new songs on or off separately under Settings → Music. It provides the selected song and artwork feature under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. A matching Apple Music link remains visible alongside associated Apple content. Tapping associated Apple artwork opens the track in Apple Music. Track information and source URLs may be saved in history and favorites; images are loaded as needed and technically cached. Skip & Stay does not create a separate offline album-art archive. Opening Apple Music is subject to its offering and privacy policy; see apple.com/legal/privacy.
Local audio analysis for visualization
All six artwork effects — Light Dots, Light Waves, Neon Pulse, Light Trails, Particle Core and Spatial Sculpture — use locally analyzed audio activity and colors from the displayed image. Skip & Stay analyzes already received radio audio: frequency content, levels and short rhythmic impulses. On supported devices running iOS 27 or macOS 27 and later, Apple Music Understanding can additionally analyze musical features locally from short audio windows. Visualization does not use a microphone, open an additional radio stream or send audio to a server. Audio windows and analysis values are transient in-memory data; they are not stored as a listening profile or synchronized through iCloud. The saved effect selection is separate. Rendering and additional analysis are limited according to visibility, Reduce Motion, Low Power Mode and device load. Optional song recognition through Apple is a separate processing activity described above.
Permissions, motion and alarm
System alarm permission is requested when you set an alarm. It is used for the final fallback alarm tone. Permissions can be changed in iPhone Settings. Visible pixelgrid rendering may use device tilt values; they are neither persistently stored nor transmitted. You can disable the grid. Skip & Stay requests no microphone or contacts access. Location permission is requested only for explicitly selected local station discovery, as described below. The selected radio alarm requires starting night mode and keeping the app visibly open; locking, closing or leaving the app ends this waiting mode. There is no continuously silent background connection. Five minutes before the alarm the night light brightens; shortly before the time the stream connects and audio fades in over ten seconds at the scheduled time, using normal stream requests. Without reception, your selected local backup recording is tried first, followed by the system alarm tone if needed. Radio alarms, alarm permission and device tilt apply to supported mobile devices; the Mac app has no radio alarm and uses no tilt sensors. iPhone haptics use local system feedback, can be disabled independently and collect or transmit no data for this purpose.
Previous recording data
Recording, export and local transcription are not available in this version. Updating does not delete data saved with earlier versions. Previous exports and private iCloud copies remain at their respective storage locations and can be removed through those locations’ controls.
Retention and deletion
You can remove favorite stations and station history in the app. Music history supports one week, one month, three months or unlimited retention, removal of individual entries, and clearing the song list in settings. Disabling music history stops new entries but does not automatically delete existing ones. Songs saved as favorites survive retention expiry and clearing music history; remove their hearts separately. When iCloud sync is enabled or later re-enabled, the relevant deletion markers are propagated to other Skip & Stay devices. Listening time, station statistics, radio-passport progress and earned rewards remain; clearing songs does not reset these totals. There is no general reset switch for the entire listening cosmos. Device-local radio-data counters can be reset separately. Operating-system controls can remove local app data; uninstalling the app does not delete an existing private iCloud copy, which may need removal through iCloud storage settings. Previous exports and backups must be removed at their respective destinations. The system can discard technical directory and image caches. The app includes no advertising or analytics trackers.
Website and contact
Images, fonts and the website’s own interface resources load from our own web server. The website contains no advertising, embedded external players or externally loaded fonts. Google Analytics loads only after your consent; details are provided under “Optional website analytics”. Language selection is an ordinary link and is not stored in cookies. The appointed hosting provider processes necessary IP address, time, URL, browser information and possibly referrer in server logs for operation, stability and abuse prevention. This is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR and the legitimate interest in a secure website. Retention follows necessity for these purposes and the hosting provider’s settings or legal obligations; no unverified fixed period is promised. Once enabled, the contact form processes email, selected topic, message and optional name to handle your request and forwards them by email, without a website message database. An IP value pseudonymized with a secret is used in a server rate limit for a ten-minute window to prevent abuse; expired entries are removed on the next form request. Contact requests are delivered to nodecast.app@gmail.com and processed in the Gmail inbox used for support. The email service privacy policy is https://policies.google.com/privacy. Requests are retained until resolved and where applicable for required statutory retention. Article 6(1)(b) GDPR applies to contractual or pre-contractual requests; otherwise Article 6(1)(f) applies with the interest in answering your message. Your address is not used for marketing. Removal requests also include station name, public stream URL, station identifier where available, and information about your authority to represent the broadcaster. These details are used to assess and handle the request under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR with the legitimate interest in a lawful station directory; Article 6(1)(c) applies where a specific legal obligation exists. The app retrieves a public station exclusion list from our web server, generating the necessary server data already described. Blocked identifiers and public stream URLs are public; contact details and request messages are not published in the list. If you arrive through the Freiheydt home page, your browser remembers that entry only for this tab (sessionStorage, key freiheydt-portfolio-entry). This keeps the return link to the home page visible as you browse product pages. The marker contains no personal details and is not sent to the server. Direct or external entries reset it; storage ends when the tab is closed at the latest.
Recipients and international processing
Depending on the feature, recipients are Apple for distribution, iCloud and recognition; Radio Browser; the selected stations and image providers; Apple Music when opening a song link; and the appointed website hosting and email providers. External services act independently for their own processing. Their infrastructure may be outside the European Economic Area, particularly in the United States. Apple’s privacy policy describes its independent processing, transfer bases and safeguards; the selected station’s or Apple Music’s notice applies to its own processing. The app does not guarantee exclusively European processing. No automated decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects are made about you.
Your rights
Subject to legal conditions you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection to processing based on legitimate interests (Articles 15–21 GDPR). You may withdraw consent prospectively at any time without affecting prior lawful processing. Contact the controller above for processing under my responsibility; for private iCloud or music service data, contact the respective provider where appropriate. You may complain to a supervisory authority, including the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision, Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany, lda.bayern.de. Your statutory rights do not depend on using a particular contact form.
Optional local station discovery
When you explicitly start location-based discovery, Skip & Stay requests system permission for foreground location use if needed. You can revoke it in system settings. Coordinates are coarsened before requesting a place from Apple; Apple receives the coarse location and connection data needed for that lookup. Alternatively, enter a city without granting location permission: search inputs and selected places are processed through Apple MapKit. Skip & Stay holds the current search area temporarily and does not persist or synchronize these location or city-search values. Radio Browser receives the country and normal connection data for the local station list, not your city or coordinates. Regional matching happens on the device. A station receives your IP address as usual when you listen. There is no background location tracking. The requested search function is provided under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR; where consent is required, Article 6(1)(a) GDPR applies. System permission can independently be revoked at any time.
Siri and Shortcuts
Siri and Shortcuts are processed by Apple; personal shortcuts may sync through iCloud depending on your Apple settings. When you search for a station, Radio Browser receives the station name and your IP address. Skip & Stay runs no voice or location server for this.
Optional website analytics (Google Analytics)
The shared choice applies to Freiheydt, Skip & Stay and Talori on https://www.freiheydt.com. It covers visits and selected app, store and Figma-link clicks. Cookie settings apply to all three websites; withdrawal stops all three measurements and removes their known analytics cookies. Old product-only choices are not extended automatically. Only with your explicit consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to improve this website. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Measurement concerns the website, not the Skip & Stay app. Without consent, neither the Google tag nor analytics requests to Google are loaded. We measure page views, App Store clicks, timestamps, pseudonymous cookie/session identifiers and technical usage data such as browser, operating system, language and approximate location. Google processes IP addresses for the connection and location derivation. We do not send form contents, search terms, URL parameters, fragments or incoming referrer URLs. Automatic form, search, scroll and link measurement, Google Signals and advertising personalization are not enabled. Legal notice and privacy pages are not measured. First-party cookies skipstay_ga and skipstay_ga_* are limited to the /iOS/SkipAndStay/ product path and distinguish browsers and sessions. They last up to 180 days without renewal on each visit; browsers may delete them earlier. User and event data in Analytics are deleted after two months, without extension on new activity. Aggregated standard reports are not subject to this period. The bases are your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25(1) of the German TDDDG. Google may also process data in the USA. Information about processing, transfers and safeguards is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy and https://policies.google.com/privacy/frameworks. Your choice, version, timestamp and expiry are stored in this browser for up to 180 days (Local Storage, key freiheydt.websites.analytics-consent.v2) to implement and document your decision. This necessary storage is based on Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG and Article 6(1)(c) in conjunction with Article 7(1) GDPR. Use “Cookie settings” in the footer of any product page to decline or withdraw consent at any time. This blocks further measurement and removes this browser’s Skip & Stay analytics cookies. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful beforehand. The website works fully without consent. Earlier choices for the previously unavailable statistics do not permit the new analytics service.
Microsoft Clarity (optional)
With separate consent, Clarity records clicks, scrolling, page transitions and technical browser/device data to improve these websites. Inputs and personal status messages are masked; form contents are not recorded; support, contact and legal pages are excluded. One shared project connects visits across Freiheydt, Skip & Stay and Talori. Microsoft acts as an independent controller and may also use data for its own purposes, including advertising and product improvement. Processing may include the USA. _clck: up to 1 year; _clsk: up to 1 day. Recordings: 30 days; heatmaps/click data and labeled or favorited sessions: 9 months. No Microsoft request without consent. Withdrawal through Cookie settings stops further recording and removes known first-party Clarity cookies. Prior lawful processing remains unaffected.
